Can a professional wrestler also maintain a career as a practicing dentist?
In short: Britt Baker, the first woman signed to All Elite Wrestling, has balanced a high-profile career in the ring with a medical practice. By intentionally blending her real-world credentials into her wrestling persona, she created a unique, often polarizing character that challenges the traditional boundaries between athlete and professional.
Brittany Ann Baker, born in 1991, pursued a dual path that saw her graduate from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine in 2018 while simultaneously training as a professional wrestler. Her wrestling career began in 2014 at the International Wrestling Cartel, eventually leading her to become the inaugural female signee for All Elite Wrestling in 2019. Within the promotion, she leaned into her background, performing under the moniker Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. She intentionally used both titles to heighten her character's perceived arrogance, evolving from a happy persona into a delusional, proud role model.
The integration of her dental career into her wrestling persona became a defining feature of her work. She maintained a private practice in Winter Park, Florida, securing an agreement to close the office on Wednesdays to accommodate her travel for AEW Dynamite. However, the intersection of these two worlds has not been without friction. In 2026, Baker revealed that she had ceased full-time dental practice, citing death threats received from wrestling fans as a primary factor in her decision to step back from the profession.
Beyond her dental work, Baker has navigated significant physical and professional challenges. She suffered multiple injuries, including a concussion, a leg injury, and a series of setbacks in 2023 involving herniated disks and a torn hip labrum. Her career was further complicated by a mini-stroke in late 2023, which sidelined her for the first half of 2024. Despite these hurdles, she has remained a prominent figure in wrestling, securing the AEW Women's World Championship and participating in various high-profile feuds, all while maintaining her identity as a professional who views dentistry as her long-term dream job.
