The banking mogul whose rapid expansion ended in a multi-billion dollar collapse
In short: Between 2019 and 2024, Banco Master’s net worth skyrocketed from R$200 million to R$4.7 billion. However, this meteoric rise ended in a massive financial scandal involving allegations of fictitious credits and an unprecedented loss to Brazil's Credit Guarantee Fund.
Daniel Vorcaro, a Brazilian businessman born in 1983, rose to prominence as the president of Banco Master. Under his leadership, the institution experienced aggressive growth, with its credit portfolio expanding from R$1.4 billion to R$40 billion between 2019 and 2024. To fuel this expansion, the bank issued Bank Deposit Certificates offering returns as high as 130% of the CDI.
This growth was shadowed by intense legal scrutiny. Investigations by the Public Prosecutor's Office allege that Banco Master used a front company, 'Tirreno,' to create fictitious credits. These unsecured assets were reportedly sold to Banco de Brasília (BRB), which injected approximately R$16.7 billion into the bank between 2024 and 2025. At least R$12.2 billion of that injection involved these questionable transactions.
The fallout was catastrophic. In November 2025, the Central Bank of Brazil ordered the extrajudicial liquidation of Banco Master. The Credit Guarantee Fund (FGC) suffered an estimated R$41 billion deficit from this action, representing its largest historical loss. Vorcaro's legal troubles escalated through 2026, culminating in an arrest order from the Supreme Federal Court on 4 March 2026.
While Vorcaro's lifestyle was marked by extreme luxury—including a R$280 million property in Trancoso and private Falcon 7X jets—his business empire faced a sudden collapse. The rapid transition from a successful banker to a central figure in a multi-billion dollar fraud investigation highlights the volatility of high-stakes financial expansion.
