In short: Formed in Orange County in 2012, Dayseeker has spent over a decade defying genre boundaries. While rooted in post-hardcore and metalcore, the band's sonic identity has continuously shifted, incorporating elements of emo, synthwave, and alternative rock as they navigate personal grief and musical evolution.

Established in 2012 amidst California's music scene, the original Dayseeker roster included singer Rory Rodriguez, guitarists Matt Steenstra and Alex Polk, drummer Mike Karle, and bassist Andrew Sharp. The group's early years were defined by a post-hardcore sound, marked by their 2013 debut album, What It Means to Be Defeated, released via InVogue Records. This era saw the band touring alongside acts like Kingdom of Giants and participating in the Artery Across the Nation Tour in 2014. The group's early work included various demos such as Resurrect and Collision.Survive. They also toured with Hawthorne Heights during the spring of 2015.

As the band moved through the 2010s, their lineup and sound underwent significant transformations. Following the release of their third album, Dreaming Is Sinking /// Waking Is Rising, in 2017, the band signed with Spinefarm Records. In 2022, singer Rory Rodriguez explained that personal grief—namely his father's passing just after his daughter was unexpectedly born—heavily shaped the writing for their fifth record, Dark Sun. This emotional weight transitioned the band into a more nuanced musical space. The band's transition to Spinefarm Records occurred in late 2016. Their 2017 release featured a collaboration with vocalist Caleb Shomo.

Today, Dayseeker is recognized for a versatile style that spans emo, screamo, and electronic rock. Their discography has grown to six studio albums, with their most recent release, Creature in the Black Night, arriving on October 24, 2025. The band continues to evolve, having recently added Mitch Stark to their lineup in 2025 following the departure of Gino Sgambelluri. The group's current percussionist is Zac Mayfield. They also released an acoustic project titled Replica in early 2024.
