In short: After surviving a near-fatal gunshot, Dexter Morgan relocates to New York City to track his missing son, Harrison. But his new life is short-lived as old ghosts from Miami emerge. This sequel to the original series and New Blood explores a darker chapter where Dexter faces both new killers and old acquaintances.

Dexter: Resurrection, developed by showrunner Clyde Phillips, serves as a direct continuation of the Dexter saga. The narrative picks up ten weeks after the events of Dexter: New Blood, finding a recovering Dexter Morgan in New York City. His attempt to find his son, Harrison, is complicated by the arrival of Captain Angel Batista, who tracks him from Miami. This pursuit forces Dexter to confront the reality that his history is closing in on him with unexpected speed.

The series features a sprawling cast, including Michael C. Hall reprising his iconic role alongside newcomers like Uma Thurman and Peter Dinklage. The production, which premiered on July 11, 2025, on Paramount+ with Showtime, was designed from the outset to span multiple seasons. By October 2025, the show secured a second season renewal, slated for an October 30, 2026, premiere. This expansion occurred during a period of significant corporate restructuring, as the production entity Showtime Studios was integrated into a new studio formed by the merger of Paramount Global and Skydance Media in August 2025.

Looking toward the second season, the show aims to blend a season-long antagonist arc with the episodic 'little bads' structure that defined the original series. Dexter finds himself caught between two distinct threats: a familiar face and a new killer terrorizing New York. Simultaneously, he grapples with a midlife crisis while Harrison navigates his own moral compass. With the return of characters like Harry Morgan as an internal manifestation and the inclusion of various serial killers, the series delves into the darkest psychological territory yet for the Morgan family.
