From professional wrestling rings to a new life, the journey of Gabbi Tuft
In short: Before becoming a public advocate for her authentic self, Gabbi Tuft spent years as a professional wrestler known as Tyler Reks. Her career spanned developmental territories and the main WWE roster, but her most significant transformation occurred long after she hung up her boots and left the squared circle behind.
Gabbi Tuft began her professional wrestling career in 2007, quickly rising through the ranks of Florida Championship Wrestling. Under the ring name Tyler Reks, she secured the Florida Heavyweight Championship and two tag team titles. By 2009, she had transitioned to WWE's main roster, appearing on ECW and later SmackDown. Her tenure in the company included notable moments like participating in the 2010 Bragging Rights victory and feuding with various established stars. However, by 2012, Tuft decided to step away from the industry to prioritize her family life, officially parting ways with WWE in August of that year.
Following her retirement from wrestling, Tuft pivoted toward marketing and fitness, launching a digital platform alongside other former athletes. Her personal life underwent a profound shift in 2020 when she shared her identity as a trans woman with her spouse, Priscilla. She made this transition public in February 2021. While her marriage ended in separation later that year, Tuft has noted that she and Priscilla remain close friends. Her public journey has since been featured across various media outlets, including The New York Times and Newsweek, highlighting her transition and life beyond the ring.
Tuft’s resilience has been tested outside of her career transitions as well. In 2019, she faced a significant health crisis when she was diagnosed with an ascending aortic aneurysm, which necessitated open-heart surgery. Despite these challenges, she has continued to share her story openly. Today, she navigates a life defined by her advocacy and personal evolution, moving far beyond the scripted narratives of her wrestling past to embrace a path of transparency and self-discovery.
