In short: Before becoming a recognizable face in 1990s sitcoms, Jonathan Silverman was a teenage stage actor touring 15 cities. From his roots in a prominent Jewish family to award-winning roles, his career spans decades of American television and film, moving from teen productions to leading man status.

Born in Los Angeles on August 5, 1966, to a Jewish family, Jonathan Silverman's path to the screen began in high school. While attending Beverly Hills High School, he was a classmate of David Schwimmer and participated in various theater productions, including 'Hamlet' and 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. His professional momentum started early; at just 17 years old, he was chosen for the road company of 'Brighton Beach Memoirs', a production that traveled to 15 different cities.

Silverman's career is defined by his versatility across film and television. He appeared in films such as 'Girls Just Want to Have Fun' in 1985 and the comedy 'Weekend at Bernie's' in 1989. On television, he secured a main role in the sitcom 'Gimme a Break!' between 1984 and 1986, and later starred as the title character in the NBC sitcom 'The Single Guy' from 1995 to 1997. His television presence continued into the 2000s with roles in 'In Case of Emergency' and 'Significant Mother'.

Beyond his acting, Silverman has engaged in philanthropic efforts, notably participating in the first-ever US television advertising campaign in 2004 to support donations to Jewish federations. This initiative featured several personalities celebrating their Jewish heritage. His work has also been recognized in the independent circuit; in 2014, he won the Best Supporting Actor award at the Hoboken International Film Festival for his performance as Johnny in 'National Lampoon's Snatched'.

Silverman's personal life is shared with actress Jennifer Finnigan. The pair met at a barbecue in 2004 and have been married since 2007. They have a daughter together.
