Tanga Loa: How a Hawaiian Football Player Became a Global Wrestling Dynasty Architect
In short: Born in Honolulu and a former college football defensive end, Tevita Fifita has spent nearly two decades navigating the complex world of professional wrestling. Known variously as Camacho, Micah, and Tanga Loa, he has built a storied career across major international promotions, defining himself through high-stakes tag team dominance.
Tevita Fifita’s journey through professional wrestling began in 2009 after he signed a developmental contract with WWE, initially competing in Florida Championship Wrestling. His early career saw him cycle through several personas, including Agent T and Donny Marlow, before reaching the main roster in 2011 as Camacho. During this period, he primarily worked on the undercard, often teaming with Hunico, before his release in 2014. Following a brief stint in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, where he competed as Micah, Fifita found his most significant success in New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
In 2016, Fifita joined the Bullet Club stable under the ring name Tanga Loa, a moniker inspired by Tongan mythology. Alongside his brother, Tama Tonga, he formed the Guerrillas of Destiny, a tag team that became a cornerstone of the promotion. Their partnership yielded seven IWGP Tag Team Championship reigns and a victory in the 2020 World Tag League. This era solidified his reputation as a formidable tag team specialist, characterized by high-impact maneuvers like his 'ApeSh*t' sitout reverse piledriver.
Fifita’s career entered a new phase in 2024 when he returned to WWE as Tonga Loa, joining the faction known as The Bloodline. His second tenure saw him capture the WWE Tag Team Championship, holding the titles for 84 days before losing them in October 2024. Despite facing significant physical setbacks, including a torn MCL in 2022 and a torn bicep in 2024, Fifita has remained a persistent presence in the industry. His trajectory from a liberal arts graduate at the University of Texas at El Paso to a multi-promotional champion highlights the evolving nature of modern wrestling identities.
The legacy of the Fifita family remains central to his narrative, as he is the son of the wrestler Haku. His career reflects the fluidity of modern wrestling, where performers frequently reinvent themselves across different promotions and continents. Whether competing in the arenas of Mexico, Japan, or the United States, Fifita’s ability to adapt his character and style has allowed him to maintain a consistent, high-level career for over fifteen years.
