A family secret shatters the bonds of blood in Tokyo
In short: In Tokyo's Seijō neighborhood, the Shiunji family lives a seemingly normal life until a shocking revelation changes everything. When the father admits his children are not biologically related, the siblings must navigate a new reality where the lines between family and something else begin to blur.
The Shiunji Family Children, a manga series by Reiji Miyajima, began its serialization in Hakusensha's Young Animal magazine on February 25, 2022. Set in the Seijō neighborhood of Tokyo's Setagaya Ward, the narrative follows Arata Shiunji, a young man who has never had a girlfriend. His life is upended when his adoptive father reveals that he and his siblings are not blood relatives. This revelation occurs on the 15th birthday of Kotono, the family's youngest sibling. The story unfolds within the Setagaya Ward. This specific plot twist occurs during Kotono's fifteenth birthday celebration.
The family dynamic is complex, consisting of Arata, his five sisters, and a younger brother. The siblings include the eldest daughter, a university student aiming to become a nurse, and the second eldest, a top-ranked valedictorian. Arata has a twin, Ouka, who is the same age as him, while the third oldest sibling, Shion, is also Arata's twin. The youngest sibling, Kotono, a middle schooler, has harbored feelings for Arata that intensified following the news of their lack of biological connection. Shion is a highly athletic tennis champion. She even maintains a dedicated fan club at school.
The series has seen significant expansion, with an anime adaptation produced by Doga Kobo that aired from April 8 to June 24, 2025. While the manga's first volume arrived on July 15, 2022, the series has grown to ten volumes released as of June 17, 2026. The story explores the psychological and social shifts within the household as the siblings reconcile their shared upbringing with their lack of genetic ties. Yen Press handles the English licensing for North America. Additionally, Crunchyroll provides streaming services for the series.
