Is your nightmare actually a premonition of a dangerous future?
In short: In the Japanese tokusatsu series Kamen Rider ZEZTZ, Baku Yorozu discovers his vivid dreams are more than just imagination. After a brush with misfortune, he finds himself fighting monsters called Nightmares in both the real world and the dream realm, using a specialized transformation belt to protect humanity.
Debuting on September 7, 2025, Kamen Rider ZEZTZ is the 36th entry in Toei Company's long-running metaseries and the seventh to air during the Reiwa period. The series explores complex themes of dreams and spy technology, following Baku Yorozu, a man plagued by terrible luck who dreams of becoming a secret agent for the organization CODE. Through the use of the Zeztz Driver and specialized 'Capsems' capsules, Baku transforms into Kamen Rider Zeztz to combat the Nightmares.
The narrative structure is divided into two distinct arcs. The first arc (Episodes 1–24) follows Baku as he discovers his ability to use lucid dreaming to fight in reality. During this phase, he learns that CODE has been training children since childhood to become dream-capable operatives. The second arc (Episodes 25–50) introduces a massive twist: Baku realizes the events of the first arc were actually a premonition of a dangerous future, prompting him to use his knowledge to rally allies against new threats like the Gore Nightmares and the villain Sieg.
The series made history as the first Kamen Rider production to feature a global simultaneous release, broadcast in North America, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand via Shout! Studios. The show's production was officially announced on July 6, 2025, following the trademark registration of the ZEZTZ brand in March 2025. The series concluded its run on August 30, 2026, passing the mantle to Kamen Rider MY-TH.
The franchise's depth is further explored through spin-offs, including a web-exclusive series focusing on Baku's sister, Minami, and an animated short titled 'Dream Part-Timer Baku'. The series also includes a film, 'Kamen Rider ZEZTZ: Farewell Mission', released on July 24, 2026, which bridges the gap between the series finale and the arrival of the next series.
