A season of transition and records for the kings of Europe
In short: Real Madrid's 2024–25 campaign was defined by monumental shifts. As legends like Toni Kroos stepped away, the club welcomed superstars like Kylian Mbappé and Endrick, while manager Carlo Ancelotti chased history, ultimately surpassing Miguel Muñoz to become the most successful coach in the club's storied history.
The 2024–25 season marked a significant era of change for the 121-year-old club. It was the first time since the 2013–14 season that the squad operated without the midfield maestro Toni Kroos, who retired in May 2024 after a decade of dominance. Similarly, the team faced its first season without long-serving defender Nacho following his departure to Al-Qadsiah in June 2024.
Despite these departures, the club secured major silverware. Real Madrid asserted their dominance in Europe by winning a record-breaking sixth UEFA Super Cup with a 2–0 victory over Atalanta on 14 August. They also claimed the inaugural FIFA Intercontinental Cup on 14 December after a 3–0 win against Pachuca. These successes allowed manager Carlo Ancelotti to secure his 14th and 15th trophies at the club, moving him past Miguel Muñoz as the most decorated manager in Real Madrid history.
The squad's evolution was further bolstered by high-profile arrivals and extensions. Kylian Mbappé joined from Paris Saint-Germain on a five-year deal in June 2024, while the young Brazilian talent Endrick arrived to bolster the attack. Meanwhile, veteran leaders like Luka Modrić and Lucas Vázquez secured their futures with contract extensions through 2025. This blend of new talent and established stars defined a season of intense competition across La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Champions League.
