The Golden State Warriors approach their 81st season in the NBA
In short: As the 2026–27 season approaches, the Golden State Warriors stand at a historic crossroads. From their long-standing NBA roots to their modern era in the Bay Area, the franchise prepares to navigate a landscape defined by both legacy and strategic rebuilding.
The upcoming 2026–27 campaign marks a significant milestone for the Golden State Warriors. It will represent the 81st season for the franchise within the National Basketball Association. This period also highlights their deep connection to the San Francisco Bay Area, as it marks their 65th year of competing in the region. This milestone season serves as a testament to the franchise's enduring presence in professional basketball. The team's longevity is reflected in its ability to maintain a consistent identity across decades of league evolution. This longevity is a hallmark of the organization's storied history. The franchise continues to build upon a legacy that spans many decades of competition.
The team's recent history is also defined by its tenure at the Chase Center. The 2026–27 season will be the eighth year that the franchise has called this specific arena its home. This era of play follows a period of transition following their move to the modern facility.
Looking toward the future, the team's roster construction relies heavily on the draft. The Warriors possessed a second-round and a first-round pick at the start of the draft. The second choice has a complicated past, having belonged to the Los Angeles Lakers prior to a trade involving the Toronto Raptors. This follows a pattern of movement for the team's assets; for instance, the franchise previously traded its original second-round pick to the Atlanta Hawks in 2019, a selection that was ultimately utilized by the Miami Heat.
