In short: In 2012, Allen Robinson was thrust into the spotlight as Penn State's number one returning wide receiver following a series of roster departures. He didn't just fill a void; he shattered records and became the first wide receiver since 1985 to lead the Big Ten in both receptions and yardage.

Robinson's rise at Penn State was accelerated by necessity. Following the loss of three key receivers—Justin Brown, Devon Smith, and Curtis Drake—he became a primary target under new head coach Bill O'Brien. His rapid development was noted by coaches who observed his daily improvement in route running and ball security. By his sophomore season in 2012, he led the Big Ten in receptions (77), receiving yards (1,018), and touchdowns (11), setting a school record for most receptions by a sophomore.

His junior year in 2013 solidified his status as an elite prospect. He finished with 97 receptions and 1,432 yards, again leading the Big Ten in both categories. For a second straight time, he secured the Richter–Howard Receiver of the Year title alongside first-team All-American status. Despite being projected as a first-to-third round pick, he entered the 2014 NFL Draft after choosing to forgo his senior season.

The transition to the professional ranks saw Robinson sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars on a four-year, $3.51 million contract. While his rookie year was hampered by a stress fracture in his right foot, his sophomore campaign in 2015 was historic. He recorded 14 touchdowns—tying for the league lead and becoming the first player in franchise history to lead the league in receiving touchdowns in a single season. During that year, he also recorded a 90-yard reception, which stood as the longest play from scrimmage in Jaguars franchise history.
