From college standout to Super Bowl champion: the storied career of Alshon Jeffery
In short: He shattered long-standing franchise records and climbed the ranks of the NFL's elite. While his career was marked by incredible receiving feats and Super Bowl glory, it was also defined by physical resilience and the heavy weight of high-stakes moments.
Alshon Jeffery's ascent began at the University of South Carolina, where he emerged as a dominant force during his 2009 freshman season. After a breakout performance against Kentucky, he earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors and was named a consensus first-team All-American. By 2010, his production was staggering; he recorded 1,517 yards and nine touchdowns over 14 games, leading the Gamecocks to their first SEC Championship Game appearance.
Entering the NFL in 2012 as a second-round pick for the Chicago Bears, Jeffery quickly became a cornerstone of the offense. His 2013 campaign was particularly historic. In a game against the New Orleans Saints, he broke a record held by Harlon Hill since 1952 by recording 218 receiving yards in a single game. He became the first player in Bears history to achieve two 200-yard games in one season, eventually amassing 4,549 receiving yards during his five years in Chicago.
Jeffery's career reached its pinnacle with the Philadelphia Eagles. In 2017, he helped lead the team to a victory in Super Bowl LII, where he scored the game's first touchdown. However, his career also faced significant hurdles, including a four-game suspension in 2016 for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing drug policy and a widely discussed dropped pass during a 2018 playoff loss to the Saints. Despite the highs of championship glory and the lows of injury and controversy, Jeffery remains one of the most impactful receivers of his era.
