The Danish winger who made history with a single debut performance
In short: From the Danish second division to the bright lights of Major League Soccer, Anders Dreyer's career has been defined by immediate impact. Whether scoring hat-tricks on his debut or leading promotion charges, this right winger possesses a rare knack for making an instant impression.
Born on 2 May 1998, Anders Dreyer emerged as a prolific force during the 2017–18 season with Esbjerg fB. Playing in the Danish 1st Division, he netted 18 goals, a tally that secured him the league's top scorer title and propelled his club back into the Superliga. His clinical nature was on full display during the promotion playoffs, where a hat-trick against Silkeborg IF on 27 May 2018 proved decisive in securing a 3–1 aggregate victory.
Dreyer's journey has since taken him across Europe and beyond. After stints with Brighton & Hove Albion and a loan at St Mirren, he returned to Denmark with FC Midtjylland, where his early performances earned him the Danish Superliga Player of the Century for February 2020. In 2021, he moved to the Russian club Rubin Kazan, where he achieved a unique feat: scoring three goals in his very first league match against Ural Yekaterinburg on 13 September 2021, becoming the first player in the league's history to do so.
His career has also navigated significant geopolitical and global shifts. In 2022, FIFA regulations allowed him to suspend his Russian contract following the invasion of Ukraine, leading to a return to Midtjylland. More recently, Dreyer transitioned to Major League Soccer with San Diego FC. Joining on a three-year deal confirmed in January 2025, he continued his trend of immediate impact by scoring the club's first-ever goal during a 2–0 victory against the LA Galaxy on 23 February.
