In short: Before becoming a household name in Australia, Andy Lee was releasing educational times table CDs. Today, he is a multifaceted entertainer known for his legendary partnership with Hamish Blake, having achieved the highest audience share ever recorded for a national FM radio show in the country.

Born on 24 May 1981, Andy Lee has built a career defined by versatile collaborations. His most enduring partnership began in 2001 when he met Hamish Blake while studying commerce at the University of Melbourne. While they have worked on various projects, including the Seven Network's The Hamish and Andy Show—which faced criticism for poor execution despite their undeniable talent—they have become synonymous as the comedy duo Hamish & Andy. Before his television success, he was named Cleo's Bachelor of the Year in 2006. He also performed in various Scouting Movement productions, including the Melbourne Gang Show.

The duo's success reached a historic peak on the Hit Network. Their drive-time radio program, broadcast Monday to Friday between 4 pm and 6 pm, captured an audience share of approximately 20%. Their popularity led to several high-profile television ventures, including the 'Gap Year' travel series which spanned New York, Europe, Asia, and South America between 2011 and 2014. Their collaborative efforts also included the mockumentary series Real Stories. Additionally, they produced the television programme The Hamish and Andy Show for the Seven Network.

Lee's creative output extends into literature and entrepreneurship. In 2016, a book intended as a single-copy gift for his nephew, titled 'Do Not Open This Book', became a widespread success, evolving into an award-winning series with 30 items by 2021. More recently, Lee expanded into hospitality, co-owning the Australian-themed New York pub 'Old Mates' in March 2025 alongside collaborators such as Hugh Jackman and Hamish Blake. Beyond writing, Lee has also served as a commentator for Triple M during the 2021–22 Ashes series. Furthermore, he acted as the host and executive producer for the Australian version of The Cube.
