In short: Known affectionately as the Volleyroos, Australia's men's national volleyball team has navigated a complex journey through international competition. From financial hurdles in the late nineties to surprising victories over global giants, the team has steadily worked to bridge the gap between regional dominance and world-class contention.

The trajectory of the Australian men's national volleyball team, or the Volleyroos, has been defined by periods of intense regional success and significant international challenges. While the Australian Volleyball Federation was established in 1963, the sport has seen a steady rise in popularity across schools and recreational centers since its founding. This domestic growth provided the foundation for the team to achieve its greatest milestone in 2007, when they secured the Asian Men's Volleyball Championship. Since its inception, the sport has experienced a rapid surge in interest throughout the country. This widespread engagement has been especially prominent within educational institutions and local community hubs.

International competition, however, has not always been a smooth path. The team made its debut in the FIVB World League in 1999, but the high financial costs associated with the tournament prevented them from returning to the competition for many years. It was not until 2014 that the Volleyroos rejoined the World League, marking a significant resurgence in their international presence.

The results of this return were remarkably strong. In 2014, the team finished 5th out of 28 competing nations. They followed this in 2015 by placing 8th out of 32 teams. During these campaigns, the Volleyroos proved they could compete with the world's best, securing notable victories against Italy and silver medalist Serbia. As of September 2021, the team held a world ranking of 28th and continues to compete as a member of the Asian Volleyball Confederation. These impressive performances demonstrated their growing capacity to rival top-tier global sides. Consequently, the squad remains an active participant within the Asian Volleyball Confederation.
