In short: In a world where destiny is written in birth-given blessings, Gideon Ragnason was cast out for being a liability. Now living as an apothecary named Red, he seeks a simple existence, but his past as a legendary knight is proving impossible to bury.

The story follows Gideon Ragnason, a former knight and member of the Hero's Party. In this world, individuals receive Divine Blessings at birth that dictate their destinies. Gideon possessed the 'Guide' blessing, which allowed him to survive any terrain. While seemingly common, he utilized this to master additional skills beyond his natural limits, becoming a skilled tactician and combatant. His survivalist abilities proved essential for his deep knowledge of various medicinal herbs. Even though his primary gift appeared unremarkable, he pushed himself to achieve much higher levels of proficiency than most.

His departure from the group was not voluntary. Ares, the party's second-in-command, orchestrated Gideon's banishment because he viewed him as dead weight. Driven by a jealous obsession with Ruti—Gideon's sister and the world's 'Hero'—Ares manipulated the situation to remove his rival. This act caused deep resentment among other comrades, such as the high elf Yarandrala, who left the party in protest. The betrayal by Ares, who held the 'Wise Man' blessing, eventually led to the mage's death at Gideon's hands. This fallout even prompted the warrior Danan to struggle through the loss of his right hand.

Seeking refuge, Gideon moved to the borderland town of Zoltan, adopting the name Red and opening an apothecary. He lives with Rit, a princess of Loggervia and a former adventurer. Despite his attempts at anonymity, his former life continues to intrude. His sister Ruti, whose 'Hero' blessing once made her emotionally indifferent, eventually abandoned her role to join him in Zoltan, even starting an herb farm to supply his shop. The apothecary's life in Zoltan is shared with his wife, the B-ranked adventurer Rit. Together, they manage the shop alongside Ruti, who now utilizes her 'New Truth' blessing to reclaim her true self.
