In short: Brock Osweiler’s NFL career was a whirlwind of trades, backups, and unexpected starts. While many remember him for his time in Denver, he holds a remarkable, singular distinction: a perfect 100 percent winning percentage in career NFL overtime games.

Born in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, on November 22, 1990, Osweiler’s path to the professional ranks was marked by versatility. Before becoming a second-round pick for the Denver Broncos in the 2012 NFL draft, he was a standout at Arizona State and a decorated high school athlete in Montana. His physical presence was notable; though media reports often suggested he stood 6 feet 8 inches tall, he actually measured 6 feet 6 and 7/8 inches at the NFL Combine.

Osweiler’s most impactful period came during the 2015 season. Stepping in for an injured Peyton Manning, he led the Broncos to a 5–2 regular-season record as a starter, helping Denver secure the AFC's top seed. While Manning returned for the postseason to lead the team to a Super Bowl 50 victory, Osweiler’s stability during the regular season was foundational to their success. His ability to perform under pressure was evidenced by a career-defining statistic: during his 2018 season with the Miami Dolphins, he maintained a 4–0 record in overtime games, an NFL record for winning percentage in such scenarios.

His career was also defined by complex movement between franchises. In 2016, he signed a massive four-year, $72 million contract with the Houston Texans. However, his tenure there was difficult, including a season where he set a Texans franchise record with 16 interceptions. His 2017 trade to the Cleveland Browns was described by ESPN’s Adam Schefter as one of the most creative in history, as it allowed Cleveland to absorb salary in exchange for draft picks. After stints back in Denver and with the Dolphins, Osweiler retired from the NFL on October 16, 2019, eventually transitioning into college football analysis for ESPN.
