From Cincinnati high school standout to a global basketball nomad
In short: Carlik Jones has navigated a whirlwind professional journey, moving from the American college circuit to the heights of the EuroLeague. His career is a masterclass in resilience, spanning the NBA, the Chinese Basketball Association, and a historic rise with the South Sudan national team.
Born in 1997 and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, Jones first gained prominence at Aiken High School. His collegiate career began in November 2015 when he signed with the Radford Highlanders. During his time at Radford, he evolved from a Big South Conference Freshman of the Year into a dominant force, eventually earning Big South Player of the Year honors. Seeking a new challenge, he transitioned as a graduate transfer to the University of Louisville, playing 19 games for the Cardinals before deciding to test the NBA Draft waters in April 2021.
The professional landscape for Jones has been characterized by rapid movement and high-stakes opportunities. After going undrafted in 2021, he navigated stints with the Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets, and Chicago Bulls. His time in the NBA G League was particularly impactful; playing for the Windy City Bulls, he earned a standard NBA contract in March 2023 and was named the NBA G League MVP by April 2023. His journey then took him to the Zhejiang Golden Bulls in China before he joined Partizan Belgrade in August 2024, where he contributed to the team's eighth ABA League and Serbian League championships.
Beyond club play, Jones has become a pivotal figure for the South Sudan national team. After joining the squad ahead of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, he delivered a standout debut performance against Puerto Rico, recording 35 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists. During a July 2024 exhibition, he achieved a historic feat as the initial athlete to post a triple-double versus the USA. Despite facing setbacks, such as a fifth metatarsal fracture in October 2025, his ability to perform—evidenced by his EuroLeague Monthly MVP award in March—underscores his enduring impact on the international stage.
