From five-star prospect to the global basketball circuit
In short: In 2019, Cam Reddish entered the NBA as a top-ten pick with immense expectations. After a high-profile collegiate career at Duke, his journey through the NBA has been defined by trades, injuries, and a search for a permanent role in the rotation.
Reddish’s ascent began in Pennsylvania, where he was a standout at Westtown School. By his senior year, he had earned the title of Mr. Pennsylvania Basketball and was recognized as a premier national recruit. His high school dominance led to a commitment to Duke University in September 2017, joining a legendary recruiting class that included Zion Williamson and RJ Barrett.
His professional trajectory started when the Atlanta Hawks selected him 10th overall in the 2019 NBA draft. Reddish made an immediate impact in his debut, recording 27 points against the Detroit Pistons. However, his tenure in Atlanta was marked by significant shifts, including a high-scoring 36-point performance against the Orlando Magic in late 2021, followed by a trade to the New York Knicks in January 2022.
The latter half of his NBA career has been characterized by volatility and movement. After struggling to remain in the Knicks' rotation due to injuries and coaching decisions, Reddish moved through several franchises, including the Portland Trail Blazers and the Los Angeles Lakers. Following a brief stint in the Lithuanian Basketball League in 2025, Reddish eventually returned to the United States, playing for the Los Angeles Clippers' G League affiliate and the San Diego Clippers.
Reddish's career serves as a case study in the unpredictable nature of professional sports, where elite talent and high draft positioning do not always guarantee a stable path through the league's rosters.
