In short: In 2018, David Fifita did something no player born in the 2000s had ever achieved: he made his NRL debut. From schoolboy standout to a multi-million dollar star, his rapid ascent through the ranks has been as explosive as his playing style.

Born in Brisbane on February 25, 2000, David Fifita entered the professional rugby league scene with unprecedented momentum. A product of Keebra Park State High School, he was hailed by commentator Andrew Voss as the finest young schoolboy forward seen in over two decades. His talent was evident early; in 2015, he was selected for the Queensland Under-16 team despite being a year younger than the age limit.

Fifita's professional journey is marked by historic milestones. During the 2018 NRL season, he became the first player born in the 2000s to debut in the competition, making his first appearance for the Brisbane Broncos against the Canberra Raiders. He quickly proved his worth, scoring his first career try in Round 23 of that same year. His impact was so immediate that by 2019, he became the first player from his birth decade to compete in the State of Origin series.

His career has also been defined by significant financial and contractual shifts. After signing a record three-year, $3 million deal with the Gold Coast Titans in 2019, he became a central figure in the league. His tenure was not without controversy, including a high-profile contract dispute in 2024 where he initially signed with the Sydney Roosters before invoking a clause to remain with the Titans until 2026. Following a period of injury, he eventually moved to the South Sydney Rabbitohs on a two-year deal announced in October 2024.
