In short: From growing up in group homes and shelters to the bright lights of the Super Bowl, Dre Greenlaw’s journey is a testament to resilience. The San Francisco 49ers linebacker has transitioned from a three-star recruit to an NFL All-Rookie standout, overcoming significant injuries along the way.

Born on May 25, 1997, Ke'Aundre J'Quan Greenlaw faced early instability, living in shelters and group homes in Arkansas starting at age eight. His trajectory shifted at age 14 when he met Brian Early, a defensive coach for Fayetteville High School. The Early family eventually adopted him when he was 21. This personal transformation was facilitated by the support of the Early family.

Greenlaw's football career began with high-level success at Fayetteville High School, where he won the Class 7A state championship in 2011. After moving from cornerback to strong safety, he was recognized as a 'Super Sophomore' by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in 2012. He eventually played college football for the Arkansas Razorbacks under coaches Bret Bielema and Chad Morris, recording 320 tackles between 2015 and 2018. He was initially considered a three-star recruit by Rivals.com. During his time at the University of Arkansas, he recorded four sacks and three interceptions.

During the 2019 NFL draft, the San Francisco 49ers selected Greenlaw during the fifth round (148th overall). He quickly became a vital part of the 49ers' defense, earning a spot on the PFWA NFL All-Rookie Team after a season featuring 92 combined tackles. His career has been marked by both high-impact play and physical adversity, including a torn Achilles tendon during the 2023 playoffs and a quad injury in 2025. His rookie season included an interception against Russell Wilson and a sack of Kyler Murray. He also achieved a touchdown via a pick-six during his second professional season.

Following his time in San Francisco, Greenlaw joined the Denver Broncos in March 2025 on a three-year, $35 million deal. This move followed a period where he was placed on the reserve/PUP list to recover from his Achilles injury.
