In short: Long before the era of global superstars, a small Piedmontese club dominated the Italian game. Between 1908 and 1922, Pro Vercelli secured seven national titles, establishing a golden age that remains one of the most remarkable periods in football history.

Founded in 1892 as the Società Ginnastica Pro Vercelli, the club's football division officially began its journey on 3 August 1903, with its first match against Forza e Costanza. During the early twentieth century, the white-shirted side became a powerhouse, claiming seven Italian Football Championships. This era of dominance included a remarkable run of five consecutive titles from 1908 through 1913, followed by two more victories in the 1920–21 and 1921–22 seasons.

The club's decline was driven by the rise of professionalism and the emergence of teams from larger, industrial hubs like Milan and Turin. After their final appearance in Serie A during the 1934–35 season, Pro Vercelli faced a long period away from Italy's top divisions. The club even experienced relegation to the amateur Serie D on multiple occasions, though they managed to regain professional status following their 1993–94 Scudetto Dilettanti victory.

The club's survival was nearly cut short in the early 2000s due to significant debt. In the 2010–11 season, Pro Vercelli was unable to participate in the Lega Pro Seconda Divisione and effectively folded. In a surprising twist of footballing identity, the rival club A.S. Pro Belvedere Vercelli—which had been formed in 2006 via a merger—changed its name to U.S. Vercelli Calcio. By acquiring the original club's trademarks and honors, they effectively preserved the historical lineage, names, and white colors of the legendary institution.

Since that reconstruction, the club has experienced various fluctuations, including a return to Serie B in the 2011–12 season after a 64-year absence. While they have faced subsequent relegations to Serie C, the club continues to evolve, most recently announcing that the Bridge Football Group would acquire 100% of the company's shares on 15 May 2025.
