In short: Born in Paris to a doctor managing tropical diseases, Geraldine Hakewill’s early life was a global odyssey. From practicing meditation in an Indian ashram to starring in major Australian dramas, her journey reflects a life shaped by diverse cultures and a deep connection to mindfulness.

Geraldine Hakewill's upbringing was defined by significant movement and diverse cultural immersion. Born on 13 July 1987 in Paris, France, her father, Peter Hakewill, was a general practitioner working in tropical disease management. Her family's travels took them from Paris to Geneva, Switzerland, and eventually to Chennai in south India, where they lived and practiced meditation in an ashram. This early exposure to different ways of life may have influenced her later approach to managing anxiety through meditation.

In the professional sphere, Hakewill has become a prominent figure in Australian screen and stage. She gained significant recognition for her role as Chelsea Babbage in the thriller series Wanted, which ran for three seasons between 2016 and 2018. In 2017, she was nominated for a TV Week Logie Award for Most Outstanding Newcomer following her performance. She later transitioned to the titular role of Peregrine Fisher in Ms Fisher's Modern Murder Mysteries, starring in two seasons from 2019 to 2021.

Beyond acting, Hakewill is a singer-songwriter performing under the moniker Geri, with a musical style spanning folk and jazz. On 28 March 2018, she released her four-track EP, You've Never Seen This Smile, which she wrote herself. Her versatility is further evidenced by her voice work, including providing the adult voice for Bluey Heeler in the 2024 Bluey episode 'Surprise!' and her casting in the animated series Tales From Outer Suburbia in June 2025.
