In short: From Barcelona's academy to the heights of European youth glory, Gerard Deulofeu was once hailed as one of Europe's most promising talents. Yet, a career defined by brilliant technical skill has recently been shadowed by devastating injuries and a sudden, mutual departure from the pitch.

Born in Riudarenes in 1994, Deulofeu's ascent was rapid. After joining Barcelona's youth academy at age nine, he became a standout in the Spanish youth systems, earning over 80 caps across various age levels. His 2012 campaign was particularly luminous; he was named the UEFA Under-19 Championship Golden Player and helped his side secure consecutive European titles in 2011 and 2012. His early development was marked by rapid progression through the ranks, moving from the U-13 squad in 2005 to making his professional debut for Barcelona's B team in March 2011.

As a professional, Deulofeu's career has been a nomadic journey through Europe's top leagues. He moved from Barcelona to Everton in 2015 for a reported £4.2 million, later enjoying spells at Sevilla, AC Milan, and Watford. At Watford, he made history as the club's first player to score a Premier League hat-trick during a 5–1 victory over Cardiff City in 2019. His playing style, characterized by pace and dribbling, drew comparisons to Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, the latter stages of his career have been defined by physical adversity. A significant anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in November 2022 against Napoli led to a complex recovery process, complicated by a cartilage infection following surgery in early 2023. After two years of being sidelined from competition, his contract with Udinese was terminated by mutual consent on 16 January 2025. While the club continues to support his recovery, the sudden end to his tenure marks a poignant chapter for a player once destined for the very top.
