The footballing legacy of the Simeone name continues to unfold
In short: Born in Rome while his father played for Lazio, Giuliano Simeone is carving out a path that mirrors his family's deep connection to the beautiful game. From River Plate to Atlético Madrid, his journey is a masterclass in navigating the pressures of a sporting dynasty.
Giuliano Simeone's trajectory is inextricably linked to his father, the prominent manager Diego Simeone. Though born in Rome on 18 December 2002, Giuliano moved to Argentina at age four to live with his mother. He began his formative years at River Plate before a pivotal move to Atlético Madrid's youth system in September 2019, a transfer later sanctioned by FIFA after River Plate was unable to retain him due to his lack of a professional contract.
His professional rise has been marked by both clinical efficiency and physical setbacks. After debuting for Atlético Madrid's B-team in January 2021, he moved through the ranks, eventually making his senior La Liga debut against Granada in April 2022. While his talent was evident—notably scoring eight goals in 11 matches during late 2021—his progress faced a significant hurdle in August 2023, when a tackle during a friendly against Burgos CF resulted in a broken fibula and an ankle injury.
The Simeone name is also becoming a fixture in the Argentina national team. Giuliano is the second son of Diego to represent Argentina, following his brother Giovanni. His international milestones include a debut against Peru in November 2024 and a memorable goal against Brazil in March 2025. By 2026, he had secured his place in Lionel Scaloni's 26-man squad for the FIFA World Cup, starting in the tournament's opening group stage victory against Jordan.
