In short: From a high school standout in Gyeonggi to a Gold Glove winner in MLB, Ha-seong Kim has redefined what is possible for South Korean players. His journey from the KBO League to the Atlanta Braves is a masterclass in rapid professional growth and defensive excellence.

Born on October 17, 1995, in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, Ha-seong Kim emerged as a premier talent while playing for Yatap High School. During his final high school season in 2013, he demonstrated elite potential, leading his team to a national runner-up finish while maintaining a .375 batting average and a .477 on-base percentage. During his final year of high school, he also recorded 20 stolen bases. His impressive performance helped his school reach the finals of the national high school baseball tournament.

Kim's professional ascent began in the KBO League, where he was drafted 41st overall by the Nexen Heroes in 2014. He quickly became a force in the league, earning three consecutive Golden Glove Awards in 2018, 2019, and 2020. His dominance was highlighted by his ability to join the prestigious 20-20 club—recording 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in a single season—at just 20 years old. He achieved this milestone by becoming only the third shortstop in the history of the KBO to reach the 20-20 mark. This feat was accomplished at one of the youngest ages in the league's history.

Transitioning to Major League Baseball in 2021, Kim has continued to break barriers. His status as a top-tier infielder was solidified in 2023 when he secured a Gold Glove Award, a first for any player born in Korea. Having played for the San Diego Padres, the Tampa Bay Rays, and currently the Atlanta Braves, Kim has evolved from a promising teenage prospect into a cornerstone of international baseball excellence. His success in the United States follows a productive tenure with the San Diego Padres. He has since expanded his professional experience by playing for the Tampa Bay Rays.
