In short: Before he became a recognizable face on network television, Jacob Artist was set to become a professional dancer. He held an acceptance letter to one of the world's most prestigious performing arts institutions but chose a different path, trading the dance studio for the acting stage.

Born in Buffalo, New York, in 1992, Jacob Artist developed his craft through the Community Music School. His trajectory toward the performing arts was accelerated when he graduated from Williamsville South High School a semester early in 2010. At that pivotal moment, he was offered a place at the Juilliard School for dance. However, in a move that would define his professional identity, Artist declined the offer to focus exclusively on an acting career.

Moving to Los Angeles to pursue this goal, Artist began building a portfolio with small roles in projects like Bucket & Skinner's Epic Adventures and the television film Blue Lagoon: The Awakening. His breakthrough arrived in July 2012 when he joined the cast of the Fox musical comedy-drama Glee. Initially appearing in the fourth season premiere, he was quickly elevated to a main cast member for the fifth season, eventually appearing in 36 episodes by the series finale in 2015.

Artist has since diversified his portfolio across various genres, including the ABC drama-thriller Quantico, where he played an FBI recruit, and the FX horror anthology American Horror Story: Roanoke. He has also established a recurring creative partnership with filmmaker Gregg Araki, appearing in three different projects between 2014 and 2019, including the surreal comedy Now Apocalypse. His career reflects a transition from a high-level dance prospect to a versatile actor across television, film, and independent cinema.
