In short: Born in London to Nigerian parents, Jay Ajayi rose from a fifth-round draft pick to a Super Bowl champion. Known for rare, back-to-back 200-yard rushing performances, he became one of the few players in NFL history to dominate the field with such explosive, high-volume production.

Ajayi's journey to professional football began with a move from London to Maryland at age seven, eventually leading him to Frisco Liberty High School in Texas. His collegiate career at Boise State University was defined by historic production; in 2014, he set a school record with 1,823 rushing yards and was the first player in program history to record 100+ yards in 10 different games during a single season. During his time at Boise State, he was a highly ranked prospect, being considered a three-star recruit. His senior year was particularly prolific, as he accounted for over 40% of his team's total yardage and touchdowns.

His entry into the NFL was unconventional. Selected by the Miami Dolphins in the fifth round of the 2015 draft, he initially struggled with injuries and roster positioning. However, he quickly proved his elite potential. In 2016, he was the sole athlete to record back-to-back 200-yard rushing games during his second year, joining just three others in NFL history to achieve such a feat. He achieved this remarkable feat in 2016, earning AFC Offensive Player of the Week honours on two separate occasions. That same season, he was selected to represent the AFC in the Pro Bowl.

Ajayi's career reached a pinnacle with the Philadelphia Eagles. After being traded to the franchise during the 2017 season, he contributed to the team's first-ever Super Bowl title in Super Bowl LII. Despite facing significant injury challenges, including a torn ACL in 2018, he remained a notable figure in the league until his retirement in early 2022. Interestingly, his interests extended beyond the gridiron; in 2020, he signed with the Philadelphia Union as an esports player. His professional journey concluded following his announcement of retirement in early 2022. Before his departure from the league, he had also participated in the NFL's 'My Cause, My Cleats' campaign to support endocrine neoplasia awareness.
