From computer engineering to the center of Korean television
In short: Before she became a household name in South Korean drama, Jin Ki-joo was navigating the world of software and regional journalism. Her unconventional path highlights a modern career trajectory where technical expertise and media experience paved the way for a breakthrough in the competitive world of acting.
Jin Ki-joo's professional journey is defined by a diverse set of credentials that predate her rise to stardom. After completing her studies in computer engineering at Chung-Ang University, she spent three years as an employee at Samsung SDS. This technical foundation was followed by a stint in regional journalism with the Gangwon No.1 Broadcasting affiliate of the Seoul Broadcasting System.
Her transition into the spotlight began in the modeling world. After securing a prize in the 23rd Supermodel Contest, she was introduced to various talent management firms. She made her official acting debut in 2015 in the romantic comedy series Second 20s, but it took several years of steady work to reach a national peak. Her career reached a turning point in 2018, a landmark year where she gained significant recognition for her roles in the film Little Forest and the drama Misty.
The success of these roles allowed her to land her first leading role in the MBC thriller Come and Hug Me. Since then, she has demonstrated versatility across genres, appearing in family dramas like Homemade Love Story, time-travel mysteries like My Perfect Stranger, and period pieces such as Uncle Samsik. In early 2025, she continued her momentum with an action comedy, and in April 2025, she became the inaugural actress for Basecamp Company, an agency established by actors Cha Tae-hyun and Zo In-sung.
