In short: From its 1945 merger to its current ownership by the same foundation as Paris Saint-Germain, KAS Eupen has endured a turbulent journey. The club's storied history is defined by frequent financial struggles, the loss of star players, and improbable escapes from relegation, including the legendary Miracle of the Kehrweg.

Founded on 9 July 1945 through the merger of Jugend Eupen and FC Eupen 1920, KAS Eupen has spent much of its history navigating the lower tiers of Belgian football. The club's early decades were defined by a cycle of promotion and relegation, often driven by financial instability. In the 1970s, the club was forced to sell star players like Philippe Garot and Ulrich Kallius due to a lack of funds. Even a promising 1973–74 season ended in heartbreak when a late penalty by Lokeren denied them direct promotion.

The club's identity is deeply tied to the German-speaking Community of Belgium, becoming the first club from this region to reach the Belgian top division. This ascent was marked by significant infrastructure shifts, including the 1993 demolition of old terracing to make way for a modern all-seater stand, inaugurated in 1994. The club's trajectory changed significantly in 2012 when it was purchased by the Aspire Zone Foundation, the same entity that owns Paris Saint-Germain, turning the Kehrwegstadion into a launchpad for global academy graduates.

Perhaps the most legendary moment in the club's history is the 'Miracle of the Kehrweg' during the 2017–18 season. Facing relegation, Eupen needed a massive swing in goal difference. While their rivals, KV Mechelen, took a 2–0 lead, Eupen staged a stunning comeback. Yuta Toyokawa scored a hat-trick, supported by two goals from captain Luis García, to secure a 4–0 victory and ensure their survival in the top flight.
