In short: Before he was an NBA eighth overall pick, Nik Stauskas was a collegiate phenomenon. Known for a lethal perimeter game, he transformed from a specialized shooter into a consensus All-American, leading the Michigan Wolverines through one of the most dominant eras in their program's history.

Nikolas Tomas Stauskas, born October 7, 1993, arrived at the University of Michigan as a highly touted recruit. His collegiate career, spanning 2012 to 2014, was defined by extraordinary efficiency. During his freshman season, he became a national standout, earning several weekly honors and leading the nation in three-point field goal percentage. His ability to score from deep was so precise that in a 2014 tournament game against Florida, he shot a perfect 6-for-6 from behind the arc, setting a school record for the tournament.

His sophomore campaign saw him ascend to the highest individual honors in the Big Ten. Stauskas was named the conference's Player of the Year and a consensus All-American. Beyond just scoring, his physical development was notable; in the 2014 offseason, he added 16 pounds to his frame and increased his vertical jump by 6 inches. This versatility helped Michigan achieve a 59-win stretch, the most successful two-year period in the program's history.

Stauskas's transition to the professional ranks was marked by high expectations. In the 2014 NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings selected him eighth overall, the highest Michigan pick since 2000. The selection was famously driven by Kings owner Vivek Ranadivé, who compared Stauskas's shooting and size to the Golden State Warriors' 'Splash Brothers,' Steph Curry and Klay Thompson. While his NBA career spanned six seasons, his reputation as a premier marksman remains anchored in his historic collegiate performances.
