In short: Nikita Thukral began her journey as a student in Mumbai before a chance encounter at a hotel launched her into the film industry. Over two decades, she navigated diverse regional markets, from Telugu and Malayalam debuts to becoming a recognized face in Kannada cinema and a reality television contestant.

Born into a Punjabi Hindu family and raised in Mumbai, Nikita Thukral initially pursued an academic path, earning an M.A. in Economics from Kishinchand Chellaram College. Her transition to entertainment was serendipitous; producer D. Ramanaidu discovered her while she was dining at a hotel in Juhu. This meeting led to her 2002 film debut in the Telugu production Hai. Shortly after, she appeared in the television drama Aati Rahengi Baharein, which premiered on Zee TV on September 9, 2002.

Thukral's early career involved navigating various regional film industries. She starred opposite Fahad Fazil in his debut, the Malayalam film Kaiyethum Doorath, and later appeared in Tamil and Telugu projects like Kurumbu and Sambaram. Her breakthrough in Kannada cinema arrived in 2005 with the film Maharaja, starring Kichcha Sudeepa. She earned significant critical acclaim for her role as Kalyani in Venkat Prabhu's 2008 Tamil film Saroja, where her performance as a gangster's concubine secured her an ITFA Best Supporting Actress Award. Despite this success, some high-profile projects, such as Gautham Vasudev Menon's Chennaiyil Oru Mazhaikaalam, were shelved after production began.

After 2008, Thukral shifted her primary focus toward Kannada cinema, collaborating with prominent actors including Upendra, Puneeth Rajkumar, V. Ravichandran, and Darshan. Her filmography expanded to include diverse genres, ranging from the historical drama Kranthiveera Sangolli Rayanna to the thriller Muran. Beyond traditional acting, she has engaged in modeling for designer Roopa Vohra and gained widespread visibility through reality television. She participated in the inaugural season of Bigg Boss Kannada, where she spent 99 days in the house and finished as the second runner-up. Her career trajectory reflects the complexities of the South Indian film landscape, characterized by rapid shifts in regional popularity and the unpredictable nature of theatrical releases.
