In short: In 2003, Parkway Drive was just a group of friends practicing in a local oasis. Fast forward two decades, and they have become one of Australia's top-selling metalcore bands, earning a spot alongside giants like Bring Me the Horizon in the genre's modern 'Big Four'.

Formed in Byron Bay, New South Wales, in 2003, the band took its name from 'The Parkway House,' a local street that served as their rehearsal space and live venue. This venue acted as a vital oasis for the local punk and hardcore community during the band's formative years. Following an early split CD with I Killed the Prom Queen in June 2003, the group rapidly expanded their reach through international tours and significant label signings, including the American punk label Epitaph in June 2006. After replacing drummer Brett Versteeg, the group recorded their first full-length album in just two weeks with Adam Dutkiewicz. They also secured a deal with Epitaph Records in mid-2006.

The band's ascent is marked by significant commercial and critical success in Australia. Their recent discography has seen unprecedented dominance on the ARIA Charts, with three consecutive studio albums—Ire (2015), Reverence (2018), and Darker Still (2022)—all reaching number 1. This success has been recognized by the industry through multiple ARIA Awards, including wins for Best Hard Rock or Heavy Metal Album for Deep Blue in 2010 and Reverence in 2018. Their musical impact extends to the global stage, earning them a designation as part of metalcore's modern 'Big Four'. This group includes notable acts such as Architects and Underoath.

Despite their momentum, the band has faced significant personal and professional pressures. In April 2022, following the cancellation of a North American tour, the members announced a hiatus to prioritize their mental health. They cited the relentless nature of the band's schedule and the toll it had taken on their individual identities and friendships, though they clarified that the group remains committed to their future. This decision followed the cancellation of a scheduled tour in North America. The musicians noted that the intense lifestyle had impacted their personal well-being and social connections.
