In short: Founded by a director of the Port Authority of Thailand, this Bangkok club has survived identity crises, legal battles over ownership, and relegation. Today, it stands as one of the most successful sides in Thai football, driven by high-profile leadership and international partnerships.

Established in 1967 by Major Prachuap Suntranakul, the club originally operated as the Port Authority of Thailand Football Club. Its early decades were marked by significant domestic dominance, including six Kor Royal Cup titles between 1968 and 1979 and a period of four consecutive Queen's Cup victories from 1977 to 1980. However, the club's structure underwent a forced transformation in 2009 to comply with new Football Association of Thailand regulations, requiring top-flight teams to register as limited companies. This led to the adoption of the name Thai Port Football Club.

The transition was not without friction. Conflict arose concerning operational control between the Thai Port Company and the initial proprietor, the Port Authority of Thailand. While the FAT eventually ruled in favor of the Authority for the 2011–12 season, the ensuing boardroom instability and lack of investment contributed to the club's relegation to Division 1 in 2012. During this period, the club was briefly renamed Singhtarua before eventually reclaiming its identity.

A turning point arrived in 2015 when businesswoman Nualphan Lamsam, known as 'Madam Pang,' took over management. Her tenure saw a significant resurgence, including a record-breaking 61-point season in 2018 and a 2019 FA Cup victory witnessed by FIFA President Gianni Infantino. Even as leadership changed again in 2023 following Lamsam's election to the FAT presidency, the club has maintained its competitive edge, recently securing the 2025–26 Thai League Cup and continuing its presence in continental competitions like the AFC Champions League Elite.
