How a father's integrity forced his son to surrender a 300 crore fortune
In short: When Viraj Anand inherited his father's business, he also inherited a massive debt. Rather than protecting his personal wealth, he chose to honor his father's reputation by surrendering every asset to creditors. This high-stakes drama explores the collision between family legacy and financial survival.
Released in 2015, the Telugu action comedy S/O Satyamurthy follows Viraj Anand, the son of a principled businessman named Satyamurthy. After his father dies in a sudden road accident, Anand discovers he has inherited assets worth ₹300 crores, but these are matched by an equivalent amount of debt. Despite advice from a family friend, Paida Sambasiva Rao, to file for corporate bankruptcy to protect his personal wealth, Anand refuses. He chooses instead to surrender all family assets to clear the liabilities, driven by a commitment to preserve his father's reputation.
The narrative tension escalates as Anand faces the consequences of this decision, including a mental breakdown for his elder brother and the end of his engagement to Pallavi. Working as a wedding planner to support himself, Anand becomes entangled in a conflict with Sambasiva Rao, who accuses Satyamurthy of defrauding him regarding an 8,000-square-foot property. This dispute leads to a high-stakes challenge: Anand must produce original land deeds within four weeks to secure Sambasiva Rao's apology and consent for his marriage to Sambasiva Rao's daughter, Sameera.
The film, directed by Trivikram Srinivas and starring Allu Arjun, was a significant commercial success. With a production cost of ₹40 crore (US$6.24 million), the film achieved a ₹51.9 crore (US$8.09 million) distributor share and total grosses of ₹90.5 crore (US$14.11 million). For Allu Arjun, the film marked a career milestone, as he became the first Telugu actor to achieve two consecutive films with a worldwide distributor share exceeding ₹50 crore.
