From unexpected soap opera casting to Hallmark stardom
In short: For Hunter King, a sudden phone call changed everything. After meeting a producer on a drama set, she bypassed the audition process entirely to land a major role on The Young and the Restless, launching a career that would span daytime soaps and major television networks.
Born on October 19, 1993, American actress Hunter King has built a diverse television career. She began her professional journey with guest appearances in shows like Roswell, Hannah Montana, and Workaholics. She gained prominence playing Adriana Masters in the Nick at Nite series Hollywood Heights. Meeting executive producer Jill Farren-Phelps on that set proved vital for her future success.
The transition to daytime television was remarkably swift. Following her work on Hollywood Heights, Farren-Phelps offered King the role of Summer Newman on the CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless. King famously bypassed the traditional audition process, accepting the role just two days after the offer. She made her debut as Summer on October 15, 2012, replacing Lindsay Bushman. Her performance earned her a Young Artist Award nomination and a Daytime Emmy nomination in 2013.
King's success continued with a Daytime Emmy win the following year, beating competitors such as Kristen Alderson, Linsey Godfrey, Kim Matula, and Kelly Missal. While her career saw significant milestones, it also involved public controversy; in 2014, she reported allegations of unwanted advances by co-star Michael Muhney, leading to his firing in December 2013. Following her tenure on Y&R, King expanded her range into comedy with Life in Pieces and eventually signed a multi-picture contract with Hallmark Media in November 2022.
Beyond her acting, King's personal life has been a subject of public interest, including an engagement to Nico Svoboda in August 2018, which ended in 2020, and a subsequent engagement to Chris Copier in October 2024. She is the sister of Kelli King and Joey King.
