From Abidjan to the world stage: the rapid ascent of Simon Adinglar
In short: In just a few short years, a winger from Abobo has navigated a whirlwind journey through Danish, Belgian, and English football. His path from the Right to Dream Academy to international glory is a masterclass in professional momentum and high-stakes performance.
Born on 1 January 2002, in the Abidjan suburb of Abobo, Simon Adingra’s professional trajectory moved with remarkable speed. After developing at the Right to Dream Academy, he moved to Denmark in January 2020 to join Nordsjælland. His professional debut arrived on 18 April 2021, where he not only entered the pitch in the 68th minute against Copenhagen but also found the back of the net to secure a 2–2 draw.
His transition to the English Premier League began on 24 June 2022, when he signed a four-year contract with Brighton & Hove Albion. A brief loan to Union SG followed, but his impact in England was immediate. During the 2023–24 season, he scored against Luton Town and notably recorded an assist during a 3–1 victory over Manchester United on 16 September.
Adingra's international career has been equally decisive. Following his first senior call-up in March 2023, he played a pivotal role in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. He scored a 90th-minute equalizer against Mali in the quarter-finals on 3 February 2024 and earned man of the match honors in the 2–1 final victory over Nigeria on 11 February. These performances earned him the tournament's Best Young Player award.
The winger's club career has seen frequent movement, including a move to Sunderland on 10 July 2025, followed by loans to Monaco and Ajax. By May 2026, his consistent performances led coach Emerse Faé to include him in the 26-man Ivory Coast squad for the 2026 World Cup.
