In short: Founded in 1912, Stabæk Fotball has experienced the highest highs and lowest lows of Norwegian football. From winning their first major title in 1998 to navigating the economic complexities of stadium moves, the club's journey reflects a relentless pursuit of excellence in the Norwegian leagues.

Stabæk Fotball, a professional club based in the Oslo suburb of Bærum, has a history defined by dramatic shifts in fortune. Originally founded in 1912, the club's name uses an archaic spelling of the area, Stabekk. While they spent much of their early history building a foundation, the 1990s marked a turning point. In 1998, the club secured its first major title by defeating Rosenborg BK 3–1 in the Norwegian Cup final.

The club reached a historic peak during the late 2000s. Under manager Jan Jönsson, Stabæk enjoyed a highly successful period, winning the 2008 Tippeligaen—their first league title—and the 2009 Norwegian Super Cup. This era also saw them make history in 2009 as the first Norwegian association football club to have both men's and women's teams competing in the premier divisions.

However, success has been tempered by volatility. Following their 2008 triumph, the club faced disappointing league finishes in 2010 and 2011, narrowly avoiding relegation both times. The club has also faced significant logistical and economic challenges, including a three-year tenure at the 15,000-capacity Telenor Arena that ended due to economic issues, leading them back to Nadderud Stadion. As of 2024, Kjell André Thu serves as head coach, and the club looks toward the future with plans to move to a new stadium, Nye Nadderud, in 2026.

The club currently plays in Norway's second tier, known as the Norwegian first division. Known as 'De Blaa' due to their distinctive blue kits, they possess intense local rivalries against Vålerenga, FK Lyn, and Bærum SK.
