In short: Before he became an NFL mainstay, Todd Heap was a multi-sport phenom in Arizona. From winning back-to-back state football championships to securing titles in basketball and baseball, his high school career set the stage for a professional journey defined by versatility, record-breaking catches, and enduring legacy.

Todd Heap's path to professional greatness began at Mountain View High School in Mesa, Arizona. A 1998 graduate, Heap was a rare three-sport standout who lettered in football, basketball, and baseball. His impact on the high school scene was immediate; he helped lead his team to consecutive undefeated state championships in 1996 and 1997. By his senior year, he had secured State Championships in both basketball and baseball while earning prestigious accolades such as Arizona All-Star honors and being named the Arizona 5A Player of the Year.

Heap transitioned to Arizona State University, where he broke the school record for tight end receptions with 115. His professional career launched in 2001 when the Baltimore Ravens selected him in the first round of the NFL draft. While playing behind eight-time Pro-Bowler Shannon Sharpe as a rookie, Heap quickly ascended to a starting role in 2002. He became a cornerstone of the Ravens' offense, eventually becoming the franchise leader in touchdown catches and ranking second all-time in both receptions and yards for the team.

His career was marked by significant milestones and physical resilience. In 2003, despite a run-heavy offensive scheme, Heap earned his first Pro Bowl selection and set an NFL record for most two-point conversions in a single season with four—a mark that remains unbroken as of 2025. He navigated various injuries throughout the late 2000s and early 2010s, including a notable hamstring injury in 2010 that sidelined him for three weeks. After a stint with the Arizona Cardinals from 2011 to 2012, Heap retired in 2013.

Beyond his on-field statistics, Heap's legacy is defined by community and family. Following the tragic loss of his youngest daughter, Holly, in 2017, he and his wife Ashley established 'Hugs from Holly,' a campaign dedicated to acts of kindness. This initiative, which honors her birthday every May 4, serves as a testament to Heap's transition from a record-breaking athlete to a community figure focused on philanthropy.
