From Manchester City's youth ranks to a rare direct move between London giants
In short: Tosin Adarabioyo has navigated a complex career path through the English leagues. After rising through Manchester City's academy and testing his mettle on loan, he has become a rare figure in modern football: a player to move directly between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
Tosin Adarabioyo's professional journey began at Manchester City, where he progressed from the youth system to the senior squad. Following a February 2016 senior debut versus Chelsea, he became the club's youngest starter in a UEFA Champions League fixture, a milestone reached at 19 years and 73 days old during late 2016. His senior debut occurred in an FA Cup match under Manuel Pellegrini. During that fixture, he was praised for his marking of Diego Costa.
To gain experience, Adarabioyo underwent several loan spells. He moved to West Bromwich Albion for the 2018–19 season, where he demonstrated versatility by playing both as a centre-back and a right-back. He also spent time at Blackburn Rovers during the 2019–20 campaign, where he scored his first senior career goal in a victory over Sheffield Wednesday. During his time at Blackburn, he was a regular starter and was nominated for a club award for a goal against Bristol City.
His permanent move to Fulham in July 2020 marked a significant shift, helping the club achieve promotion back to the Premier League in the 2021–22 season. Following a stint at Chelsea, he made a notable move to Tottenham Hotspur on 1 September 2026. This £12 million transfer was significant for being the first direct permanent transfer between the two clubs since Carlo Cudicini in 2009. He joined Chelsea on a free transfer in 2024 after his contract at Fulham expired. His first goal for the Blues came in a Conference League match.
While he has earned 14 caps for England at the youth level—ranging from the under-16s to the under-19s—he has yet to make a senior appearance for the national team. Due to his descent, he remains eligible to represent Nigeria. He made his debut for the under-16s against Scotland. He also represented the under-17s in a match against Portugal.
