The linebacker who turned a fumble into a Super Bowl victory
In short: Uchenna Nwosu’s career is a study in resilience. From a collegiate suspension to a series of grueling injuries, he navigated the professional ranks to become a defensive anchor. His journey culminated in a defining moment of athletic intuition on the game's biggest stage.
Nwosu’s path to the NFL was not linear. While playing for the USC Trojans, he faced a significant hurdle in 2014 when he was sidelined from the Holiday Bowl due to team rules violations. He briefly stepped away from the program but returned in 2015 to complete a four-year tenure. His collegiate success was marked by 169 total tackles and 12.5 sacks, eventually earning him a co-MVP honor alongside quarterback Sam Darnold.
Drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers in 2018, Nwosu entered the league as a backup. However, he quickly became a playmaker, notably sealing a Wild Card win against the Baltimore Ravens by sacking Lamar Jackson and forcing a fumble with just 28 seconds remaining. His transition to the Seattle Seahawks in 2022 saw a statistical explosion; in his first year with the team, he recorded a career-high 9.5 sacks and 66 total tackles, earning his first NFC Defensive Player of the Week award.
The narrative of Nwosu's career is often defined by physical adversity. He has battled significant injuries, including a shoulder injury in 2020, a pectoral injury in 2023, and a recurring knee issue that required surgery in 2025. Despite these setbacks, he reached a career pinnacle on February 8, 2026. During Super Bowl LX, he intercepted a pass from New England's Drake Maye and returned it 45 yards for a touchdown, securing the championship for the Seahawks.
