In short: In just seventeen years, FC Krasnodar transformed from a third-tier newcomer into a national champion. Driven by a philosophy of steady evolution rather than expensive transfers, the club navigated financial shifts, stadium construction, and international suspensions to achieve a historic league title in 2025.

Founded in 2008 by businessman Sergey Galitsky, FC Krasnodar began its professional journey in the Russian Second Division. The club's ascent was marked by unconventional promotions; despite finishing third in 2008 and fifth in 2010, they were elevated to higher divisions due to other clubs declining participation for financial or logistical reasons. This period of rapid climbing saw the club move from the 3,000-seat Trud stadium to the Kuban Stadium, before establishing a permanent home.

A cornerstone of the club's identity is the Krasnodar Stadium, a 35,074-seat arena that opened on 9 October 2016. Developed with the help of English and German companies at an estimated cost of €200 million, the facility was designed to host international matches and includes amenities ranging from a museum to business clubs. This infrastructure supports Galitsky’s long-term vision: building a squad primarily from locally trained players through an academy network spanning four Russian regions.

The club's recent history has been a rollercoaster of European glory and geopolitical disruption. While they achieved significant milestones, such as winning their group in the 2015–16 Europa League and qualifying for the Champions League group stage in 2020–21, the 2022 invasion of Ukraine led to their suspension from European competitions by the European Club Association. Despite these challenges, the club reached a historic peak in the 2024–25 season, securing their first-ever league title with a 3–0 victory over Dynamo Moscow on 24 May 2025.

The club's trajectory remains a study in resilience. Even after facing heavy defeats against top sides like Spartak Moscow and experiencing periods of mid-table instability, the 2024–25 campaign featured a club-record 11 consecutive wins. This streak included dominant performances against all other Top-6 teams, proving that the 'step by step' approach favored by Galitsky could eventually yield the highest domestic honors.
