From Chicago streets to executive suites: the evolution of Lil Bibby
In short: He rose from the Chicago rap scene to become a powerful record executive. After a rapid ascent through the mixtape circuit, Brandon George Dickinson pivoted from performing to building a label that would shape the careers of global superstars.
Brandon George Dickinson, known professionally as Lil Bibby, began his musical journey in 2011. His early career was defined by the 'Free Crack' mixtape series, starting with his 2013 debut. The release of his sophomore project, Free Crack 2, in August 2014, saw significant digital traction, quickly amassing over 120,000 downloads.
While his early work earned critical acclaim—including a five-star review from BET—Dickinson's focus shifted in 2017. Alongside his brother George, known as G-Money, he founded Grade A Productions. His motivation for the transition was rooted in a desire to use his industry knowledge and relationships to help other artists achieve financial success and sustain their families.
Under the Grade A imprint, Dickinson has played a pivotal role in the careers of major talents. He discovered the late Chicago artist Juice WRLD after hearing 'Lucid Dreams' and later signed Australian rapper The Kid Laroi in 2019. The label has also managed the complex task of overseeing several posthumous releases for Juice WRLD, including the 2021 album Fighting Demons and the 2024 project The Party Never Ends.
Beyond the music industry, Dickinson's personal trajectory includes a notable academic detour; after earning straight A's in coursework, he opted to complete his high school diploma at Chicago's Liberty High School in 2015 rather than pursuing a GED. In December 2022, his professional success was reflected in the acquisition of a US$7.9 million modern home in Los Angeles.
