Witness the moment Earth rises over the Moon during the Artemis I mission

This footage captures Earth emerging from behind the lunar horizon. Recorded by the Orion spacecraft during its uncrewed Artemis I flight, the video provides a unique perspective on our planet from deep space following a critical orbital maneuver.

On the sixth day of the Artemis I mission, a camera mounted on an Orion solar array captured the Earth rising over the Moon's shadowed surface. This occurred immediately after the spacecraft completed an Outbound Powered Flyby, which brought it within 80 miles of the lunar terrain.

The flyby marked the mission's closest approach to the Moon. By Sunday, Nov. 20, the spacecraft had entered the Moon's sphere of influence, shifting the primary gravitational pull acting upon it from Earth to the Moon as it transitioned into a distant retrograde orbit.
