In short: Worthing F.C. is a masterclass in sporting longevity. Since its 1886 inception, the club has navigated league collapses, stadium fires, and identity shifts. Their journey from a local Sussex side to a National League title winner reveals how community roots can fuel century-long growth.

Established as Worthing Association Football Club in 1886, the team quickly became a regional powerhouse. They won their first competitive match—a 1–0 victory over Brighton Hornets—on November 27, 1886. The club's early era was defined by dominance in local competitions, including multiple Sussex Senior Challenge Cup titles and back-to-back West Sussex League championships between 1906 and 1910.

Since transitioning to Beach House Park during 1889, the club's primary location has undergone major changes. The group shifted to Woodside Road's Sports Ground in 1901, occupying a 13-acre plot gifted by Mr. Brazier. Brazier. This site featured a notable Queen Anne-style pavilion but was eventually subdivided; while the northern portion became the current ground, the southern part transitioned into tennis courts and later a bowls club in 1948.

The modern era has been marked by both adversity and infrastructure growth. After a devastating fire destroyed the main stand in 1985, it was replaced in 1986. Recent years have seen a rapid expansion of facilities, including an artificial pitch installed in 2015 and new stands built between 2023 and 2024. This momentum culminated in the 2025–26 season, where Worthing won the National League South title, leading to the club being awarded the Freedom of the Borough by the local council in 2026.

The club's competitive history is punctuated by extreme highs and lows, such as a massive 25–0 victory in 1911–12 contrasted with a heavy 0–14 defeat in 1946–47. Despite these fluctuations, the club has consistently maintained its status as a significant fixture in English football, recently setting a record attendance of 4,002 during their title-deciding match against Ebbsfleet United.
