From a tragic past to a mask-wearing supernatural antihero
In short: Elizabeth Tyne was once defined by a dark secret and a forced identity. Now, she is Hallows' Eve, a hero who wields enchanted masks from the dimension of Limbo. By donning these artifacts, she can adopt the powers, traits, and even speech patterns of iconic monsters and legends.
Elizabeth Tyne first appeared in 1995 as a character primarily known for her relationship with Ben Reilly. Her backstory is rooted in trauma: after murdering her abusive father in self-defense, she fled and adopted the alias Janine Godbe. Her life took a dramatic turn when Kaine Parker kidnapped her to frame her for his own designs, eventually forcing her to fake her death before she surfaced years later.
Her transformation into Hallows' Eve was catalyzed by chaos magic. While supporting Ben Reilly’s quest to reach Limbo, Tyne was empowered by Madelyne Pryor using the magic of S'ym. This process granted her immunity to Limbo-based magic and a collection of enchanted masks kept in a bag. These masks allow her to manifest diverse abilities—ranging from the superhuman strength of a Hulk mask to the flight of a vampire mask—while mimicking the specific personalities of their inspirations.
The character has seen significant commercial success since her 2022 reintroduction in Amazing Spider-Man #14, which helped sell out the issue. Her solo series, Hallows' Eve, debuted in March 2023 and ranked as the third best-selling comic book of that month globally. Critics have praised the character's versatility and original power set, noting her role as a compelling expansion of the Spider-Man universe.
Beyond her individual journey, Tyne serves as a member of the supernatural team known as the Blood Hunters. She has engaged in high-stakes conflicts against the Bloodcoven vampires and collaborated with established heroes like Miles Morales and Elsa Bloodstone. Her narrative balances personal redemption for her past actions with active roles in large-scale mystical threats.
