Inside the high-stakes combat sports landscape of ONE Championship in 2026
In short: As ONE Championship enters its 16th year, the promotion continues to dominate the combat sports scene. From the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok to the Cayman Islands, the 2026 season showcases elite Muay Thai, kickboxing, and mixed martial arts through intense tournaments and high-stakes championship bouts.
The year 2026 marks the 16th year of operations for ONE Championship, a major promotion based in the Cayman Islands. The organization's diverse roster of disciplines includes mixed martial arts, kickboxing, Muay Thai, and submission grappling. A significant portion of the year's action has been centered at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, hosting a series of high-profile events.
The "Friday Fights" series, also known as "ONE Lumpinee," has been a staple of the calendar. These events, such as Friday Fights 138 through 144, feature various weight classes including flyweight, bantamweight, strawweight, and atomweight. These bouts often serve as the headline attraction, driving the momentum of the promotion's seasonal schedule.
Financial incentives play a crucial role in the competitive landscape. Fighters frequently compete for $10,000 "Performance of the Night" bonuses, a recurring feature across multiple events in early 2026. However, the stakes also include strict regulatory oversight; for instance, at ONE Fight Night 40, Joao Pedro Bueno Mendes was fined 30 percent of his purse after failing a hydration test and missing the featherweight limit by 3.6 pounds.
The year also features significant championship matchups. One notable event, ONE Fight Night 40, featured a Women's Strawweight Kickboxing World Championship bout between Jackie Buntan and Stella Hemetsberger. This matchup followed a previous encounter in September 2025, where Hemetsberger won the vacant Muay Thai title via unanimous decision.
