From collegiate volleyball to professional wrestling, how Izzi Dame conquered the NXT ring
In short: Before she was a champion in the WWE, Franki Carissa Strefling was an athlete on the Eastern Michigan Eagles volleyball team. Today, she performs as Izzi Dame, a formidable heel and member of The Culling. Her journey from the volleyball court to professional wrestling stardom is a masterclass in strategic ambition.
Born on July 13, 1999, in Buchanan, Michigan, Franki Carissa Strefling initially pursued athletics at Eastern Michigan University, where she earned a degree in business management. Her transition to professional wrestling began in earnest when she signed with the WWE Performance Center as part of the Fall 2022 Rookie Class. She made her televised debut in July 2023, quickly establishing a reputation for calculated alliances and tactical interference.
Dame’s career is defined by her ability to navigate complex stables and rivalries. After an early alliance with Kiana James, she joined The D'Angelo Family before eventually defecting to join Shawn Spears in the stable known as The Culling. This strategic maneuvering has been a hallmark of her time in NXT, often involving elaborate schemes to outsmart opponents. Her persistence paid off on January 6, 2026, at NXT: New Year's Evil, where she defeated Thea Hail to secure her first championship, the NXT Women's North American title.
Beyond her title reign, which lasted 60 days, Dame has consistently sought high-stakes opportunities, including a surprise appearance in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) in 2024 to challenge Jordynne Grace. While she has faced setbacks—such as her loss to Tatum Paxley at Vengeance Day in March 2026 and her unsuccessful bid for the NXT Women's Championship against Lola Vice—her career trajectory remains sharp. Ranked 109th in the 2025 PWI Women's 250, Dame continues to position herself as a persistent threat in the women's division, often claiming to be steps ahead of her competition.
