In short: In a world of anthropomorphic animals, Hiroshi Odokawa is just a 41-year-old walrus trying to get through his shift. But his casual conversations with passengers soon unravel into a dark series of mysteries, leading him directly into the crosshairs of both the police and the yakuza.

Produced by P.I.C.S. and OLM, the Japanese anime Odd Taxi aired on AT-X and TV Tokyo between April and June 2021. The story follows Hiroshi Odokawa, a 41-year-old walrus who works as a taxi driver in Tokyo. Having been abandoned by his parents during elementary school, Odokawa is generally asocial and often maintains a melancholic attitude, frequently losing himself in various radio programs while on the job. The series was originally broadcast on TV Tokyo. This production follows a manga that began publishing in early 2021.

The narrative tension escalates as Odokawa's routine interactions with animal passengers transform into a complex investigation involving a missing high school girl. This central mystery draws him into a dangerous intersection of different social layers. He finds himself being tracked by the police—specifically the identical meerkat twins Kenshiro and Koshiro Daimon, one of whom is a cynical, corrupt officer—and the yakuza, represented by characters like the gelada gangster Kyouhei Mizoguchi. The investigation involves a missing high school girl. This case causes the police to track leads back to the driver.

The series features a diverse cast of characters navigating urban life, from the members of the idol group Mystery Kiss to various comedians and local business owners. The complexity of the plot is reflected in the interconnected lives of the inhabitants, such as a pygmy hippopotamus obsessed with going viral or a puma whose obsession with a mobile game rarity leads to a violent confrontation with Odokawa after a taxi swerve breaks his phone. The show includes an idol group called Mystery Kiss. It also features various local business owners like an izakaya proprietor.
